Yes, women are the world’s sexiest creatures (damned fine). But, no, that does not entitle us to make it an issue when a woman happens to reject (or simply be different than) normative standards of feminine beauty. Why do we take such liberties when speaking of the bodies of women we don’t know, especially smart ones? I always take umbrage when I am reminded that the male body is treated with more respect, but most of my fury is especially reserved for when intelligent, remarkable women are reduced to their physicality. And, of course, sexism is always more infuriating when served with a sprinkle of flabophobia (fatophobia?).
