Professor Forman

Example of Iambic Dimeter:

I would to God

I could not care

About the world

And those who spoil.

And yet I do

And all that’s true

And if you would

I’ll pray and toil.

Example of Iambic Pentameter:

One day I went to get some food and drink

And met a man who looked at me and smiled

I said to him, “What’s that on your left hand?”

He blinked and stammered, “Honey, it’s some prop.”

So in my youth I made believe it true

And ever since my conscience has been dark.

Example of Trochaic Trimeter:

Spoken, measured, broken.

Words are thrown in faces.
Blanket phrases. Targets.

Jaded statements. Lying.

Over, over. So over.

Example of Anapestic Tetrameter:

Can we go to that island and swim in its shores?

Can you leap to my arms and forget from before

All the effort, the tears, and my little, lean fears

That I took to your care to abuse your fine love?

Example of Accentual Meter:

Well, I’ve been here before where I’m lost and afraid.

I was told, well before you, to be bold, be more brave.

Really, it would be that boredom between lost

And afraid that would bring me looking for this

And you, I’m afraid. It’s dullness I’m more fearful of.

Short Syllabic Poem:

The Lovesong Of Me and You

I love to sing in the

car and I love to play

the guitar. And I love

you when you love me to

smile. You should smile more for

you and smile more for me

and you should sing at a

bar, a karaoke bar,

let your guard down now and

forever. I’ll sing too

while you hold the mic for

you and for me if you

promise to sing that song

about things that don’t end.

Birth is like being torn from a piece of paper/ A quivering piece/ Flung into the hurricane
